    When is the best time for the KGL trek?

    From July through September, hikers can access the Kashmir Great Lakes trek. Throughout the rest of the year, the cold weather in Kashmir causes the entire region to be covered in snow, making travel practically impossible. 

    Kashmir is a fantastic place to go trekking because it stays relatively dry during the monsoon seasons. Monsoon cannot reach Kashmir because of the Pir Panjal mountain range, which stands between the region and the rest of the Indian subcontinent. In reality, July to September marks the peak of summer and the beginning of autumn.

    Around two-thirds of the snow would have melted by the middle of August. It is also one of the hottest times of the year in Kashmir. You will find stunning natural scenes with Vivid hues. Some light rain is expected here and there, but nothing to worry about. There’s a chance of evening showers on a few days this time of year. That is why it is wise to trek to the pass early in the day to get to your following camp location before dark. In August, Kashmir is its greenest. Trekkers need to go to the high mountains to see snow in Kashmir. At night, though, temperatures can dip to 8-10°C or lower.

    What is KGL trek like, in the month of September?

    The temperature will drop significantly from the middle of August through September. The skies are clear and blue with occasional rains, contributing to the flowers’ wilting. It will start to snow around the middle of September. The weather in September in Kashmir is ideal, as there are fewer visitors. Daytime temperatures are around 19°C. It gets down to about 7-9°C at night, which is fantastic. The monsoon would have ended, but it would have left behind a lush landscape. It will be ideal for a trekking trip, as the scenery will be stunning. In September, temperatures drop but remain mild enough to be enjoyable, especially in the higher valleys.

    Kashmir, also known as “Paradise on Earth” has a lot of different kinds of biodiversity. Flora and fauna work together to keep the ecosystem healthy enough to keep nature’s balance and support life. Pine and maple trees are some of the most well-known trees because they are planted often. 

    Birds are the main reason why there are so many species of chordates. The state has a lot of different kinds of animals, like mammals and reptiles, as well as birds. Kashmir is located at the intersection of major climate zones. Because of this, you will find a lot of unique flora and fauna. 

    Kashmir valley is famous for its alpine wildflowers and you can spot more than 50 species easily on the KGL trek trail. Hyacinths, Lilies, Jasmine, Marigold, Kashmir Iris are some common flowers that you might get to see.

    Among birds, gold and rose finches, wagtails, and pipits are easy to spot. You can easily spot a colony of Himalayan marmots on the rocky side walls of the valley.

    January – Kashmir is snow-covered in January. At sunset, the temperature dips several degrees below zero till daybreak. 

    February – February will have more snow than January. This month will be exceedingly cold. Temperatures average 10°C, depending on time and location. Nighttime lows will stay below 0°C. 

    March – In March, the snow melts from lower elevations. Therefore, carry enough warm clothing for extreme cold. During this time, the views will be both white and green. 

    April – April has wonderful weather. It is mildly cool. Because the average temperature will be 10°C to 20°C, you may enjoy the excursion. Spring begins in April. Snow-capped mountains surround a lovely landscape. 

    May – May is relatively warm. With colder evenings, you can expect 20°C to 30°C in May. 

    June – Kashmir starts getting monsoons in late June. Pack light because June temperatures average 20°C to 30°C. 

    July – July brings temperatures in Kashmir 20°C and 30°C. Although it doesn’t rain much in Kashmir in July, it does have incredible scenery. The rains make everything green and attractive. 

    August –  Early August has a lot of tourists. By the month’s end, there will be relatively fewer people. At night, though, temperatures can dip to 10°C or lower. There is also a chance of Landslide because of the monsoon. 

    September – After the monsoon, the countryside would be lush. September is cooler than August. The lower valleys will be hotter during the day, but the higher valleys will be nice. 10°C to 20°C is usual. 

    October – October is the start of fall. September greenery starts turning orange. Kashmir has a dry October. The Chinar trees turn orange.  

    November – In November, the orange Chinar tree leaves turn scarlet. Light snowfall starts in November. Starting November, expect low temperatures of 0°C and sub-zero too.

    December – Light snowfall continues in December. Nighttime temperatures will drop to freezing. The temperature will start dropping close to 0°C at night.
